Tupac is referring to the fact that the world has begun to indulge in hate amongst races, as opposed to enlisting this hate on the actual evils of the world. In his song Tupac states, “Misplaced hate makes disgrace to races” (Tupac). An example of this is Tupac’s song entitled Changes. What made Tupac such an iconic figure was the fact that he not only spoke about his personal experiences, but the entirety of the minority community. He chose to speak about truths as opposed to distasteful subjects that are easily forgettable. Tupac tends to deliver insightful messages through his music that can be related back to the real world. The second connection is made with his listeners as his statement is extremely relatable. The first connection is undoubtedly traced back to his mother, who he would not replace regardless of the difficult life they experienced growing up. Tupac’s mother however, suffered from a “drug addiction, which was especially devastating to her son” (Serrano, 108). Tupac had a difficult life growing up due to the fact that his father quickly left the family picture, leaving him to stay with his mother and younger half-sister (Serrano,108).
In fact, even those who do not necessarily listen to or enjoy hip-hop/rap music, recognize his name. Tupac’s name will continue to be passed down for many generations. However, one poet stands out among the rest, and his name is Tupac Shakur. Since 1970, there has been an incredible number of poets that have created unforgettable pieces of music that have implemented a lasting impact throughout time.
